COVID-19 second wave: Edo confirms 15 new infections — active cases now 615

Edo state has confirmed 15 fresh COVID-19 infections and nine new recoveries within 24 hours. 

Andrew Obi, the state’s COVID-19 incident manager, stated this on Tuesday during a virtual meeting of the task force chaired by Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo.

With the latest figure, he explained that the number of active cases in the state has risen to 615 patients.

According to Obi, the state has recorded 3,817 confirmed cases, which includes 3,067 recoveries.

The incident manager also noted that the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases is alarming, and urged residents to comply with guidelines stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“Edo state, within the last 24 hours, recorded 15 new cases of COVID-19 and nine recoveries, with 615 active cases currently receiving treatment from various treatment and isolation centres within the state,” Obi said.

“As the government intensifies efforts to curtail the spread of the virus and protect the majority of Edo people, we urge all residents to comply with all guidelines to contain the second wave of the pandemic, especially regular hand washing and the use of face masks in public.”

He noted that the state government would strengthen COVID-19 regulations to prevent further spread of the virus.

Edo recorded its first case of the coronavirus in March 2020.
