Andrew Obi, the Edo COVID-19 incident manager, says the state has recorded 38 deaths since the second wave of the pandemic began.
According to the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19, the country entered a second wave of the pandemic in December 2020.
The incident manager also confirmed 33 new cases, 12 recoveries and one death within the past 24 hours.
Speaking on Friday during a virtual meeting of the task force chaired by Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, Obi noted that the state now has 795 COVID-19 patients currently receiving treatment at various centres in the state.

“Edo has, in the last 24 hours, recorded 33 new cases, 20 recoveries and one more death from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the second wave of the pandemic to 38,” he said.
“A total of 795 active cases are currently receiving treatment at various isolation and treatment centres in the state, with a 90.7 percent prevalence of community transmission.
“The risk of transmission of COVID-19 is further heightened, and as such we all must take responsibility for action to limit its spread.”

Obi advised residents to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol in the state, adding that the second wave of the pandemic is showing significantly higher death rates, when compared with the first wave.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), as of February 11, Edo has confirmed 4,161 infections, out of which 3,217 recoveries and 149 deaths have been recorded.
