COVID-19: Taiwo Obe to celebrate diamond jubilee with ’60 lessons for young journalists’

The Journalism Clinic says Taiwo Obe, its founder, will celebrate his 60th birthday by sharing experience with young Nigerian journalists.

Obe will celebrate his diamond jubilee on July 16.

In a tweet on Friday, the Journalism Clinic said the celebration will feature 60 answers concerning the next line of action for young and aspiring journalists in the COVID-19 era.

It said the discussion is in line with the vision of the organisation which seeks to raise the next generation of first-rate Nigerian journalists.

“These are trying times even for many experienced journalists, so what should a newbie do? Taiwo Obe has 60 answers,” the tweet read.

Journalism Clinic said participation for the event, which will hold on Zoom, is free.

Participants are encouraged to register by sending “invite me” with their names, WhatsApp numbers, and affiliations to [email protected].

“Even before COVID-19, journalism globally has been in a quandary. The pandemic has made things even worse,” the tweet read.

“So, what should a young person seeking to have a career in journalism do? Revered journalist Taiwo Obe (better known as TO), founder/director The Journalism Clinic which vision is to raise the next generation of first-rate Nigerian journalists and founder, EverythingJournalism group on LinkedIn, has 60 answers.

“For his 60th birthday (16th July), he will share them in a Zoom meeting. Participation is free but requires registration.”

Reacting to the announcement, Obe said at the event, he would share journalistic experience gathered in his four decades of practice.

He said the experience will be those considered helpful in the era of coronavirus pandemic.

“What have I learnt in at least four decades in journalism – and still learning – that could be helpful to fresh and aspiring journalists, especially in these trying times? That is my 60th birthday giveaway, 16/07/2020,” he tweeted.
