COVID: Ogun to bar unvaccinated residents from government offices, schools

The Ogun government says persons who have not been vaccinated will be barred from public schools and offices in the state.

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, announced this on Monday at the flag-off exercise for mass vaccination.

Abiodun said residents have till the next 60 days to get vaccinated or they will be restricted from accessing government facilities, adding that the state has increased the number of centres for receiving the COVID vaccine.

“The number of vaccination sites have been increased from 131 to 509 across the 20 local government areas in the state. This process will include the primary, secondary, tertiary health facilities and some selected private hospitals,” he said.

“We will take this mass vaccination as part of the protocol in place during this period of the pandemic. This is because we cannot afford to lose our guard. I enjoin our people to embrace this mass vaccination towards ensuring the safety and wellbeing against COVID-19. This also will demonstrate our seriousness.

“We are going to give a window to allow for this vaccine and that window starts from today for the next 60 days. Anybody, after 60 days, that isn’t vaccinated will not be allowed in our offices, schools and will not be allowed to do business with us. We will do spot checks in our markets. You’ll be required to carry your vaccine cards at all times.”

While encouraging residents to take advantage of the mass vaccination exercise, the governor said 298,785 residents have received their first dose of the vaccine, while 148,200 people have had their second dose.

“These figures imply that only about 5 percent of our total population have received their first dose, while only 2.4 percent have been fully vaccinated,” he added.
