The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) says the Tafawa Balewa Square and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) are in the best condition ahead of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) under 19 men’s World Cup African qualifiers hosted in Lagos from March 26 to April 6.
The 12-day tournament will have Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and host Nigeria competing for Africa’s sole ticket to the World Cup.
Uyi Akpata, NCF president, said both venues have been optimised and certified and are ready to host the countries.
“The last few days have been spent trying to align all logistics to get the ovals ready and I am pleased that nothing is being left to chance at ensuring a successful hosting,” Akpata said.

“This tournament is not just about competition but also about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players.”
Nigeria will begin its quest for the World Cup in a game against Namibia on the opening day at the TBS oval while Kenya will take on Sierra Leone at the UNILAG oval. Both games would be expected to set the tone for a tournament of fierce competition and outstanding performances.
Nigeria previously won the sole African ticket in 2019 after which the country competed at the ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup hosted by South Africa in 2020.
