TotalEnergies says the oil spill at its Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel was not a massive leak.

The leak had occurred while crude was being loaded from the vessel on November 15.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) had said it is collaborating with the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) from the crisis management room (CMR) on the incident.

In a statement on Thursday, Charles Ebereonwu, country communication manager at TotalEnergies, said the incident did not affect crude oil production at the facility.

He said the sheen has been treated with an appropriate response.

“This is not a massive leak and the sheen has been treated with the appropriate response that resulted in a reduction of most of it,” Ebereonwu said.

“No shoreline or communities have been impacted.”
