Bruno Parrilla, Cuban minister of foreign affairs, has arrived in Nigeria for an official visit.
A statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Nigerian foreign affairs ministry, said Parrilla will meet with Yusuf Tuggar, his Nigerian counterpart, on Monday.
Ebienfa said the meeting is aimed at exploring avenues for deepening bilateral ties in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, science and technology, and cultural exchange.
“Both nations will also deliberate on enhancing collaboration within multilateral frameworks to address global challenges and promote sustainable development,” the statement added.

The Cuban minister is expected to engage in high-level discussions with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“The sterling role played by both countries in the abolition of apartheid and in support of liberation movements, as well as the actualization of independence for many African nations, is the rallying point for the relations,” the statement noted.

Nigeria and Cuba are members of the NonAligned Movement (NAM), a forum of 120 countries not formally aligned with or against any major power.
Both countries are also members of the Group of 77 alongside China.
The group is a coalition of developing countries, designed to promote its members’ collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations (UN).
Ebienfa said Nigeria remains committed to working closely with Cuba to advance shared interests and to promote peace, stability, and prosperity.
