Enugu takes COVID-19 test to churches
Enugu government on Sunday took its COVID-19 and high blood pressure tests to some churches in Enugu south LGA of the state.
Juliet Ogoh, disease surveillance and notification officer in Enugu South, said it was essential for residents to know their health status.

“The testing is on in Enugu East, North, Nkanu East, West and Uzo Uwani and we are the only team in Enugu South, she told NAN,” he said.
“The people are responding positively. So far, we have tested over 2,000 residents.
“This will enable them to avoid slumping suddenly when their hypertension status is unknown. Also, it will help them to manage it if their test showed they have it”.

US to donate 750,000 COVID vaccine doses to Taiwan
The United States says it will donate 750,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan as part of its plan to help other countries fight the pandemic.
Tammy Duckworth, US senator, disclosed this on Sunday in Taipei, Taiwan.
“It was critical to the United States that Taiwan be included in the first group to receive vaccines because we recognize your urgent need and we value this partnership,” Duckworth said.

Taiwan has seen a surge in COVID cases and has accused China of blocking its efforts to secure vaccines — a claim Beijing has repeatedly denied.
Uganda re-imposes COVID lockdown
Uganda has re-imposed COVID-19 lockdown amid concerns of a second wave in the country.
The lockdown includes the closure of schools, suspension of inter-district travel and church services.

President Yoweri Museveni says the spike in cases will “exhaust the available bed space and oxygen supply in hospitals unless we constitute urgent public health measures”.
“In this wave, the intensity of severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients and death is higher than what we experienced in the first wave of the pandemic,” he said.

NCDC confirms 11 COVID infections
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 11 people tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

The latest positive samples of COVID-19 were recorded in three states, according to the agency’s update for June 6, 2021.
States that reported new infections are Lagos (9), FCT (1) and Kano (1).

The agency says 102 patients were discharged on Sunday after recovering from the infection, raising the country’s total recoveries to 163,096.
No new death was recorded on Sunday, leaving the fatality toll at 2,117.
A total of 166,767 coronavirus infections have been confirmed across the country — out of which 1,554 are active cases
Delhi, Mumbai ease COVID lockdowns
New Delhi, the Indian capital, has announced a further easing of COVID restrictions.
Markets and shopping malls will now be allowed to reopen, Delhi Metro will also resume services at 50 percent capacity, from Monday.
Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi chief minister of the national capital territory, said it is important to reopen the economy as COVID cases decrease.
“It is important to bring the economy back on track now that the COVID-19 situation improving. We pray that the situation remains the same,” Kejriwal said.
Maharashtra state, which includes Mumbai, the commercial city, also announced a five-level plan to ease restrictions.
