Abdulkadir, who was represented by Achede Owoicho, deputy director of basic and secondary education, said Nigeria got the grant as a result of previous engagements with GPE.

“At the end of our engagement with the GPE, a 15 million-dollar grant was given to Nigeria as part of the COVID-19 response grant for the country,” the director said.

Italy has made the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for all healthcare and pharmacy workers.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the government said the measure became necessary to protect medical staff, patients and vulnerable people who are at risk of infection.

Roberto Speranza, health minister, said there was “great satisfaction” on the new law, adding that winning the “health battle is a prerequisite for a real restart of the country”.

The new law implies that healthcare workers who refused to be vaccinated will be reassigned to places where they will not be in contact with patients.

Pfizer vaccine 100 percent effective in 12 and 15-year-olds

Pfizer-BioNTech on Wednesday said its vaccine showed 100 percent efficacy against the coronavirus in 12 and 15-year-olds.

The drugmaker said in the phase three trial of 2,260 participants age 12 and 15 in the US, the vaccine elicited strong antibody responses one month after the second dose — exceeding those demonstrated in people age 16 and 25 in previous trials.

The vaccine is currently authorised in the US for emergency use in people 16 and older.

Pfizer/BioNTech plans to submit the data to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for expanded emergency use authorisation.
