UK donates 592,880 more AstraZeneca COVID vaccine doses to Nigeria
The United Kingdom donated 592,880 additional doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Nigeria.
The development brings the total number of COVID vaccine doses donated to Nigeria by the UK, via the COVAX facility, to 1,292,640 doses.

On August 16, Nigeria took delivery of 699,760 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine donated by the UK.
NCDC to facilitate equitable access to COVID vaccine for PWDs
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it will work with relevant stakeholders to facilitate equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine for persons with disabilities.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of NCDC, stated this when David Anyaele, executive director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CDD), a not-for-profit Organisation, paid him a visit in Abuja.
Ihekweazu said PWDs will be included in the NCDC database to help them get the necessary assistance they need relating to COVID-19.
“This will enable us to shape the way we work internally and also shape our engagements with the public,’’ he said.
“We will include you in our database when we communicate in our thinking; when we work. We will really work with you to shape our thinking around the implementation of the things we want to do.”

COVID-19 no longer threatens society, says Denmark
Denmark says it has brought the COVID-19 pandemic under control.
Magnus Heunicke, health minister, said COVID-19 no longer threatens the country.
“We have recorded high vaccination rates. Therefore, as of Sept. 10, we can drop some of the special rules we had to introduce in the fight against COVID-19,” Heunicke said.

The minister, however, added that the government will “not hesitate to act quickly if the pandemic again threatens important functions in our society”.
Nigeria records 618 COVID cases

Nigeria has recorded 618 new cases of COVID-19 in 14 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
The NCDC confirmed this in its update for August 27, 2021.

The states that recorded the new infections include Lagos (312), Akwa Ibom (89), Edo (71), Rivers (47), Ekiti (20), Plateau (20), and Delta (15).
Others are Kwara (13), FCT (11), Osun (8), Oyo (4), Ogun (3), Benue (3), Gombe (1) and Kaduna (1).

The agency said 189 persons were discharged on Friday while 10 persons died of the infection.
According to the NCDC, the report for Friday include deaths reported in Lagos on August 25.
So far, 190,333 cases have been confirmed, 169,815 patients have been discharged and 2,308 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the FCT.
Germany to offer Africa 70m COVID vaccine doses
Germany says it will offer 70 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to African countries this year.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said this on Friday after a conference with African leaders.
“Germany will make available not only 30 million doses of vaccines but it will be as much as 70 million doses,” Merkel said.
