Solomon Dalung, minister of youth and sports, says Nigeria’s bobsled team will win a medal in future Winter Olympics.
The trio of Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere represented Nigeria at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, North Korea.
They became the first African team to qualify for the event, eventually placing 20th in the bobsled competition.
Dalung described their participation in the tournament as historic, saying he expects them to shock the world at the next Winter Games.

“The Bobsled team’s performance at the women’s category of the Bobsled event is historic as this is their first appearance at any Winter Olympics,” Dalung said in a statement made available to TheCable.
“Despite placing 20th overall, it means they’re among the world’s best 20 Bobsled athletes.
“They also recorded an overall personal best time of 3.29.60secs at the Games.

“Nigerians are happy and proud of the girls for their courage and determination in putting Nigeria’s name on the world map of achievers.
“Their patriotism is unparalleled. Having watched them in their first attempt, I am very hopeful that these ladies will shock the world at the next Winter Olympics in Beijing.”
The minister also praised Nigeria’s team to the just concluded All Africa Individual Badminton Championship in Algeria. The team won three silver and two bronze medals.
