Dangote Group: No protester died in our refinery

Dangote Refinery has dismissed the report that a worker was killed at its refinery in Lagos state.

Some aggrieved workers had reportedly staged a protest earlier on Tuesday and there are reports that one of them was shot dead by security operatives.

But in a statement, Edmin Devakumar, executive director, projects and portfolio management at Dangote Group, on Tuesday, dismissed the report.

He admitted that there was a protest but said the protesters are not its direct employees but that of Onshore, Offshore (Oil) and Chemie-Tech subcontractors.

Devakumar said the management of the refinery has met with the contractors to ensure that the issues on ground are resolved, amicably.

“Our attention has been drawn to an issue on social media alleging staff protest at the refinery over salary increment dispute,” the statement read.

“The protesters are direct employees of Onshore, Offshore (Oil) and Chemie-Tech subcontractors, who are currently dealing with an industrial dispute with their employees.
