Daniel Bwala: Some ministers don’t believe in Tinubu… they’ve failed their destinies

Daniel Bwala

Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar campaign in the 2023 election, says some ministers act like they do not believe in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

On Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Tinubu will soon shake-up his cabinet.

“The president has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet and he will do it,” Onanuga told State House correspondents.

In an interview on Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, on Thursday, Bwala said while some ministers are unable to articulate their achievements to the media, some others simply do not believe in the reforms initiated by the president.

He said the ministers who have failed the president have put their career and future at risk.

“With the performance of the ministers, I think that is the reason the president has put out words that he is going to rejig. He is not going to be guided by events but when he wants to do it. It is not a matter of ifs but matter of when,” he said.

“For those who have failed him, I look at it like the president does not have the problem of entrusting responsibilities, but that those who have failed him have failed themselves and their destinies.

“I know for a fact that given what this administration has achieved, very little has been conveyed to the Nigerian people and oftentimes it is because some people feel that the media is hostile to the government.

“There are other agents of government that sadly, their attitude suggest that they don’t even believe in the president. They rather want to play safe.

“So, because there is an outcry about economic reforms which have brought a little bit of hardship to the people, and we are all trying to navigate our way.

“They feel that if they put themselves on the line defending the president, they would incur the wrath of the people. They would rather they stay behind and let other people talk.

“The president is assessing whether some people believe in his administration because if you do, you will be a messenger of what you believe in.

“Because many ministers have not been able to come out and defend what they were asked to do, there is a general assumption that they have failed.”

Tinubu inaugurated his cabinet on August 21, 2023.
