Shehu Sani: Dapchi means lessons not learnt in Chibok

Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central, says it is wrong to claim that Boko Haram insurgents have been defeated.

Sani said this while reacting to the abduction of 110 students of Government Girls’ Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state.

The senator said the abduction proved that the country had not learnt its lesson from the Chibok episode.

He said the kidnap of the Dapchi school girls represented a “failure of the system” and a “serious” set back in the fight against the insurgents.

“It’s wrong to continue to claim and proclaim the defeat of the insurgents; and claim and proclaim the capture or recapture of their leaders and provoke resurgent actions,” he said in a statement.

“The release of the Chibok girls raised the nation to Gold and now Dapchi degraded us to bronze. Chibok represented the failure of the state, Dapchi represented the failure of the system. Dapchi means lessons not learnt in Chibok.

“Until the girls are found, the spirit of the Girls will continue to hunt our souls. I call on the government to give more priority to its responsibilities and duties than its image.

“My heart goes to the abducted girls and their families. And I call on all security agencies to work in synergy with each other in other to secure their freedom.”
