Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has called for the re-evaluation of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to ensure that the party is practising true deocracy.
Abiodun stated this on Friday while addressing party members at the south-west stakeholders meeting for APC constitution review, held at the June 12 cultural centre, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
According to the Ogun governor, it is time to review the party’s constitution in order to ensure that the APC is indeed doing its part to promote democracy.
“It is important that we come together to appraise ourselves as members of this great party, and, even look critically at the structure of our party,” he said.

“This will give us the opportunity to evaluate the journey so far. It is a period of self-examination.
“In doing this, the Constitution of our party is a vital instrument that we must continuously re-evaluate. If we must prove to others that we are true democrats, we must be seen as practising and ensuring internal democracy even within the party.”
Abiodun asked members of the APC in the zone to use the meeting as an opportunity to resolve all disagreements, and chart the way forward for the party’s progress in the zone.

On his part, Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun, said the meeting will provide the platform for the south-west to respond to the growing agitation for party reform.
Also, Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, noted that the south-west would constitute a committee to present the position of the zone to the review committee.
He also urged the committee to work towards addressing the mode of conduct for party primaries.
