Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has warned that the farmer-herder crisis troubling the state cannot be allowed to continue.

Speaking when he received the report of the committee on the conflict on Friday, Abiodun said the skirmish has negatively impacted on the peaceful nature which the state is known for.

The governor said urgent steps will be taken to address the menace, while urging indigenes and settlers to continue to live in peace as they have done for ages.

“Never again should such dastardly skirmishes be allowed,” he said.

“This committee was set up by government to basically look into what happened, quantify the loses from both sides and make recommendations to government on how to pre-empt similar conflict from occurring in the future.

“We realised that this axis has a communication problem which prevented our people from communicating especially in times of crisis. We are solving this problem because telecommunication companies have started erecting their masts and very soon communication will improve in these areas.”

The state has been battling with the conflict between farmers and herders over allegations that the latter often attack innocent villagers.
