Henry Nwosu, former Super Eagles captain, who is currently bed-ridden at the Asaba Specialist Hospital in Delta, has received a pledge of assistance from Sunday Dare, the minister of youth and sports development.

Nwosu had recently cried out for help after being diagnosed with an undisclosed terminal ailment.

But in a statement on Thursday, the minister said he has launched efforts to help the 1980 AFCON winner to get back to good health as soon as possible.

“I empathise with our dear Henry Nwosu at a time like this. We respect him as one who flew the flag of the country high and a legend of the national team just as we respect and honour the labour of our heroes past and present,” the statement reads in part.

The sports ministry has in the past reached out to families of ex-internationals such as Sunday Bada, Ali Jeje, Sam Okwaraji, Rashidi Yekini, and Kadiri Ikhana among others.

Nwosu, who is the youngest player to win the AFCON for Nigeria at 17, also coached the national U-17 team.
