Dare, Sanwo-Olu, Gumel honoured for contributions to Taekwondo development in Nigeria

Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, were among those honoured at 93rd International Masters and 46th Poom/Dan Examiners Courses.

They received the Taekwondo’s Kukkiwon awards alongside Habu Gumel, president of Nigeria olympic committee at the event held in Lagos.

The awards, bestowed by Kukkiwon World Taekwondo, were given to the trio for their contributions to the development of Taekwondo in Nigeria.

Speaking on the award, Dare thanked the Kukkiwon World Taekwondo and the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria for the gesture.

The minister also urged both bodies to invest more in Taekwondo in the country.

“The ministry of youth and sports development appreciates the giant strides Taekwondo is taking in Nigeria and will continue to create the right environment for its growth and development,” he said.

“I wish to appeal to the world body to make Nigeria a priority for technical support that will help taekwondo to grow, not just here but in Africa as a whole.”
