David Mark’s daughter dumps APGA for APC — third party in three years

Two lawmakers at the house of representatives on Tuesday defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Blessing Onuh, lawmaker representing Otukpo/Ohimini federal constituency, defected from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC.

Also, Yakubu Abdullahi, the member representing Bauchi federal constituency, dumped the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for APC.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila read the letters of their defection at plenary.

The lawmakers cited leadership crisis and division within their respective parties as the reason for defection.

“I write to formally notify you, sir and all members of the house of my defection from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the All Progressive Congress (APC),” Onuh’s letter reads.

“My decision is due to the leadership crisis which has factionalised the party and has created a set of division at all levels of the party, hence my decision to defect after due consultation with my people.”

Onuh is one of the daughters of David Mark, a former president of the senate.

After failing to secure the PDP’s ticket to represent her constituency in 2018, she dumped the major opposition party for APGA.

Onuh won the election on APGA’s platform, defeating her uncle, Egli Johnson Ahubi, candidate of the PDP.

With her latest switch, Onuh has now been a member of three parties in the last three years.
