And that day will come…

By Dayo Oladele-Ilori

And that one day will come……
It will surely come,
when the sun will glow, dropping its yellow all over your brow
When the rain will reign, drenching your hair, dress, pants without an escape
When the stars will leave the sky, trails of light at your feet to embolden your path
That one day will surely come,
when everything beautiful, everything lovely will come.

That one day will come…….
Assuredly it will,
When the wind will blow sweet kisses across your sumptuous lips
And the waves rolling over one another in a sweet ceaseless reels
Wrapping the rocks in the fierce embrace, washing the sand off your feet to an enviable heap
When the moon will smile, and the sky in thunderous laughter, celebrating you,
Yes! you who nobody thought will pull through.
That one day will surely come,
when all the pieces on the chess board in chorus chant;
Safe the queen, safe the queen; Oh, safe the queen

That one day is just a few miles away…
When you will walk tall, amongst the many walls, towering high without an effort
Upon a stage entirely yours, its strength beneath your feet secured,
When you will render that appreciation speech, raising enviable awards amidst resounding applause.

And men will scamper for a selfie, and women, a warm teary hug, children tugging for an autograph and
endorsement sprawling your heels
That one day is closely near…
brushing the stokes of success against the bare canvas,
the mirage, perspective, the murals, all becoming one

That one day is ticking away in minutes, giving way to the seconds
When you will raise your head, walk down the aisle, breaking into a dance, running into those arms.
Those arms, those hands that will lift the veil off your breath-taking face,
releasing your radiance unabated, unhindered, all the way
When you will be swept off your feet, and off the long celibate wish
to a healthy dining fashion, with the choicest gracing your teeth
And that single dedicated chef serving and dishing it –
the enchanting appetizer, the delicious main course and unforgettable deserts
and you craving, longing and begging for more.

That day when you will find love and love will find you,
When finally, you say the “I do” or find the peace so true
when little toes will scratch your well pedicured feet and the midnight cries herald the dawn
That day has come for you to taste joy, a different type joy,
a joy so well defined, a cocktail of wholly and sometimes extremely lonely
A joy to know, a joy to hold, a joy to seduce and a joy to fully own.

Remember, when you chase the sun, you will catch the clouds, when you long for the moonlight, stories
are heralded. Never seek perfection, simply stay genuine.
