D’banj accuses Dr Sid of breaking Mohits records

DB records boss Dapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj has come out to say Sidney Esiri, better known has Dr Sid, is to blame for the break-up of the Mohits crew.

D’banj, who spoke extensively in a You Tube video, said his existence as part of Mohits, a record label he co-founded with Don Jazzy in 2004, made some members of the record label feel jealous.

When asked who was responsible for the Mohit Break up, D’banj had this to say: “If I would really be truthful, I would say maybe Dr. Sid,” he said. (Laughs).

“We came back from New York and we had a meeting, myself and Jazzy. And Jazzy really expressed his discomfort that ‘listen, this place is too expensive.

“We are spending money; we are going to stay there; things dey happen for Nigeria; we are already bosses here; we don’t need all these; make we just stay here .

“And I’m like we are almost there, like it’s expensive but I know but you can’t really guarantee, because it’s a dog eat dog world out there. And in his own words, ‘you can’t leave certainty for uncertainty,’ which makes sense.

“So Jazzy literally said that he wasn’t interested, and I told him, because I had sensed it when I was in New York before the last concert we had in February 2012.”

He went on to say that he tried to make Don Jazzy “see the light” on why the group should remain as one but his former colleague felt otherwise.

“I had told the lawyers in New York that I felt that it wasn’t, that’s why we had legal papers, so they were trying to get him to come around, but I understood totally, which is what I said to you,” the artiste said.

“So when he came back home, he had a meeting and that was in July, and he said he doesn’t want us to do Mo’Hits again. I said to him, ‘Please give me six months’ to do anything I can, because I had seen that it wasn’t working, and he and Sid had formed this synergy.

“It was very clear the way I could see it; he wasn’t very comfortable around me; I didn’t understand what was happening, and me everybody knows that I don’t have time, I was always on the move.”

He concluded that Dr Sid had been complaining that he (D’banj) was taking the shine at Mohits, overshadowing Sid’s reign.

“Did you ever hear a recording that I did? I think it was in South Africa that Dr Sid spoke and I recorded it,” he continued.

“I will give it to you to play, when you hear that recording, you will know why Mo’Hits scattered. He said that his (Dbanj’s) light was too much; he was overshadowing us.

“I will give you the tape, play it, and I think that will end this whole bullsh*t,” D’banj concluded.
