Death toll from Lagos building collapse hits six

The death toll from the collapsed building at Oba Idowu Oniru street in the Lekki area of Lagos state has risen to six.

The seven-storey uncompleted building collapsed on Sunday.

Six people were said to have been trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building but two corpses were taken from the wreckage.

Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos territorial office coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the death toll increase on Monday.

He said the excavators in search of corpses at the site retrieved four more bodies from the rubble.

Some residents close to the scene of the collapsed building believe that more bodies are still trapped in the wreckage.

However, Farinloye said the six people reportedly trapped in the building have been found.

He added that rescue operation is still ongoing and if more victims are found, the public will be notified.

“Operation is still ongoing. If we see more, we will disclose,” Farinloye told TheCable.
