Death toll in Lagos building collapse rises to seven as rescue efforts continue

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says the death toll from the building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area has increased to seven.

The incident occurred on Saturday when a three-storey building at Oremeta street suddenly gave way, trapping several people beneath the rubble.

The structure reportedly housed a restaurant, with both staff and customers present at the time of the collapse.

As of the third day of search and rescue operations, LASEMA confirmed that a total of 20 individuals have been accounted for.

The agency noted that thirteen people, including nine men and four women, have been pulled out alive.

However, the agency also reported that seven bodies have been recovered from the debris, comprising five adult females and two adult males.

LASEMA said emergency responders are maintaining safety precautions and crowd control around the site.

Both inner and outer cordons remain in place to protect responders and onlookers as the operation continues.

Investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
