Deji Bademosi awards in Ondo

The Deji Bademosi award for academic excellence has honoured nine exceptional students and two teachers of St. Ambrose’s Catholic Secondary School in Ondo.

The award, initiated in 2019 by Bademosi, the award-winning journalist, was conceived as a way of giving back to his alma mater.

The recipients, including top students from each junior and senior secondary class, were awarded plaques, school fees, textbooks, writing materials, and two pairs of uniforms.

Solomon Nweke and Lydia Oladepo, who were recognised as the overall best students in SSI and SS2 respectively, received brand new laptops.

Oladepo, who has consistently won the award from JSS1 through to the latest edition, was also presented with a cash prize of N50,000 and a N3 million scholarship trust fund, which will be accessible during her tertiary education.

Felicia Ogundipe and Olubowale Ogunye were recognised as the best teachers in the junior secondary category, with each receiving a laptop and a cash prize of N100,000.

Speaking during the award presentation, Bademosi said the award was initiated to inspire students to excel, regardless of their backgrounds.

“I want each student to know that where you come from should never limit your aspirations for quality education,” he said.

“This ceremony serves as a reminder that hard work and determination can lead to greatness.”

Oyinlola Oyinlola, principal of the school, thanked Bademosi for his support, adding that the award has “encouraged students to strive for excellence”.

“We are grateful for his dedication to making our school a beacon of hope for young learners,” Oyinlola said.
