Adekalu Fakorede of Rivers state has won a gold medal in the men’s 100 metres race at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba.
The 19-year-old stormed a 10.25-second finish at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Monday evening to clinch the victory.
Fakorede, who failed to make it to the final of the 20th NSF 100m race, was alert from the block and intensified his sprint in the last 5o meters to beat Sunday Akintan of Oyo in second with 10.32 and Mabilo of Edo, who finished third after dipping at 10.34.
In the women’s 100m race, Tima Godbless of Bayelsa was too fast for all her opponents as she took the gold medal, finishing at 11.32 seconds.

The 18-year-old, who is Nigeria’s U-20 record holder, was brilliant as she surpassed her bronze medal finish in the 20th NSF to win the title.
Delta duo of Faith Okpo and Praise Ofoku got silver and bronze, respectively.
Earlier, Prior Ochonogor of Edo won the gold medal in the men’s 400m hurdles.

He took the title with a finish of 51.34 seconds ahead of Sodiq Adebisi who took the second position.
Abasiono Akpan of Akwa Ibom took the women’s 400m hurdles title with a finish of 56.83 seconds while Delta duo of Sarah Ochigbo and Glory Nathaniel secured the remainder of the podium finishes.
