Delta partners World Bank, EU to engage 1,345 youths

Governor Oduagha, Delta state-deltastate.gov.ngThe Delta State government has engaged 1,345 youths under its State Employment and Expenditure for Result Project (SEEFOR).

The beneficiaries were engaged in the cleaning of drainages, maintenance and rehabilitation of roads.

During an orientation exercise, Chief Kenneth Okpara, the commissioner for finance, explained that the youth were the second batch of the SEEFOR.

“This project is being sponsored in partnership with the World Bank and EU,” he said. “The beneficiaries were selected from Udu, Uvwie and Warri South Local Government areas of the state.”

According to him, the gesture is part of efforts of the state government to sustain its ‘”Delta Beyond Oil’” initiative.

Okpara also said the programme is geared towards reducing unemployment and curbing crime in the society. He therefore advised the beneficiaries to show more commitment to the job, warning that government would not hesitate to sanction erring employees.

Mr. Benson Ojoko, coordinator, SEEFOR said that 400 youths were engaged in the first batch of the project in Asaba in 2013.

Ojoko commended the World Bank, EU and the government of Delta for the programme.
