Despite youth protest, Sheriff inaugurates committees

Ali Modu Sheriff, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), inaugurated chairmen of the four special committees of the party in Abuja on Tuesday, despite complaints from youth protesting their exclusion from the list.

Describing the list, which comprises serving governors and senators, as the worst in the history of the PDP, the youths who demanded active participation, called on the party leadership to make provisions for them.

But speaking during the inauguration, Sheriff appealed to aggrieved members to follow the party’s constitution on all matters.

He said there was need for members to be united and address issues internally.

“Every PDP member has the right to demand for what he intends to achieve within the party, but in doing that he or she should ensure that it is done in line with the party’s constitution,” he said.

“No party is run on the pages of newspaper.”

He also advised the All Progressive Congress (APC) to stop blaming the PDP for the economic crisis, particularly the scarcity of petrol in the country.

“The APC leaders choose to blame PDP ‎for lack of petrol in the country even after one year in office,” he said.

“I advice them to stop blaming us; we are now in the opposition working to reposition our party.”

Commenting on Saturday’s area council election in the federal capital territory (FCT), Sheriff asked the APC to play by the rule.

He also charged his party members to be of good conduct.

“The PDP believes in one man, one vote. We will not be party of electoral violence, but we will protect our votes,” he said.

“We do not want rerun and inconclusive election.”
