Mohammed Adamu, assistant inspector-general of police, is currently at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Adamu has reportedly been selected to replace Ibrahim Idris who is set to retire after clocking the mandatory 35 years in service.
After arriving at the villa, he moved straight to the office of Abba Kyari, chief of staff to the president.
A police source had hinted TheCable of Adamu’s appointment on Monday evening.

Adamu was a deputy commissioner of police in Ekiti state and a commissioner of police in Enugu. He has also served at the Interpol.
The out-going IGP performed his last official duty on Tuesday morning. He laid wreath at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abuja on Tuesday.
