‘They’re trying to steal the election’ — Trump says he’s heading to supreme court

President Donald Trump says his opponents are trying to steal the elections, adding that he would be making a statement shortly.

Despite winning key states like Ohio, Florida, Texas, Trump is currently trailing his challenger Joe Biden on electoral colleges votes after 120 million votes have been called nationwide.

In a series of tweets posted just about the time Biden addressed the nation, Trump said he will never allow his opponents to steal the election.

“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!” he tweeted.

“I will be making a statement tonight. A big WIN!”

Twitter immediately tagged his first tweet as misleading, stating that “some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process”.

Addressing the nation later on, Trump said he would be heading to the US Supreme Court to stop voting and address electoral fraud.

“Millions and millions of people voted for us tonight, and a very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people, and we won’t stand for it,” he said.

“We winning everything, and all of a sudden it was just called off. Frankly, we did win this election,” Trump said before the elections were called.

“So our goal now is to ensure the integrity, for the good of this nation — this is a very big moment, this is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner, so we’ll be going to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4 o’clock in the morning and add them to the list. It’s a very sad moment.”

“This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election.”

Biden on the other hand had said earlier that he believes he is “on track to win this election”.

“It ain’t over until every ballot is counted… but we’re feeling good about where we are,” Biden added in Delaware.

Trump currently has 212 electoral college votes to his name, and needs only 58 more to clinch the presidency. Biden needs only 47 of such votes.

Speaking on Trump’s comments about electoral fraud with mail-in ballots, David Levine, elections integrity fellow, Alliance for Securing Democracy, had said at a foreign press briefing that the process is secure.

“I think that mail-in voting is a secure process. We’ve had mail-in voting right in the United States since the Civil War,” Levine said.

“We’ve seen state and local election officials across the political spectrum that have some form of mail and voting, that exists. And we’re of course expecting a record number of voters to be able to cast ballots by mail.”

He added that “it’s really important the trusted sources of information are proactively sharing what processes are in place to ensure that mail-in voting is, of course, safe and secure.”

The election results are likely to keep coming till Friday.
