DHQ: Troops killed many terrorists, arrested eight collaborators in two weeks

The defence headquarters (DHQ), says troops of the Nigerian army have killed several terrorists and bandits operating in the north-east, west and central parts of the country.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Edward Buba, director of defence media operations, said the troops recorded success during land and air operations in the last two weeks.

Buba said six terrorists were killed while eight suspected collaborators were apprehended in Mafa, Kukawa and Konduga LGAs of Borno.

He said during the air operation in the north-east, some terrorists surrendered to the troops,  adding that some of their hideouts in Hyawa area of Borno were destroyed with bombs.

“After action review revealed that many of the terrorists were neutralised and their structures destroyed,” NAN quoted Buba as saying.

”In the course of operations, troops recovered seven AK 47 rifles, two FN rifles, one 36 hand grenade, 100 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammo, two mobile phones, foodstuff, condiment, one cart and the sum of N2.1 million.

“Troops equally neutralised six terrorists and arrested eight suspected terrorist collaborators as well as rescued 10 kidnapped civilians during these operations.”

The defence spokesperson said troops of operation safe haven recovered weapons during a raid on bandits’ enclave in Mangu and Jos south LGAs of Plateau.

He added that the soldiers, in separate operations, stormed kidnappers’ hideouts in Nasarwa and Chinkai forest in Wukari LGA of Taraba state, where many abductees were rescued.

Buba said nine bandits were killed during the raid while 10 suspects were arrested.

He said the operation in the north-west led to the raid of bandits’ hideouts in Batsari, Tangaza and Maru LGAs of Katsina, including Sokoto and Zamfara states.

He added that many terrorists were killed during the operation, while 11 other insurgents were arrested.
