Diallo’s 12-minute hat-trick gives United victory over Southampton

Amad Diallo scores his first senior hattrick in Man United's 3-1 victory over Southampton

Manchester United needed Ahmad Diallo’s late goals—including two in added time — to overcome Southampton 3-1 in their English Premier League (EPL) match at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Red Devils were outplayed and kept in the game after falling behind from another corner kick, but Diallo, who recently signed a long-term contract, pulled the Mancunians from the jaws of defeat with a 12-minute hattrick against the bottom league side.

Southampton dictated the game and were denied the lead by Andre Onana, the Man United goalkeeper, who made excellent saves to keep the scores level. He was however beaten in the 43rd minute but by his own man, Manuel Ugarte, who diverted a corner kick delivery into the net inadvertently for 1-0 lead to the visitors at the break.

The hosts continued to play second fiddle to Southampton. However, a flurry of changes turned the tide, and Man United kickstarted the revival with the equalizer on 82 minutes, Diallo tucking home a poorly controlled ball that set up nicely for him for 1-1.

The 22-year-old was in inspired form and gave Man United the lead one minute into added time with a move he started and finished off to send the home fans into jubilant mode.

Diallo completed his hattrick- his first for the club- when he pounced on a defensive error as Southampton attempted to play out from the back, allowing the Ivoirian to add more gloss to the scoreline five minutes into added time.

The win means Ruben Amorim’s side stopped a run of four league matches without a win and moved up to 12th in the table with 26 points, while Southampton remain at the bottom with six points.
