Dickson’s sister kidnapped in Bayelsa

Nancy Dickson, the younger sister of Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state, was abducted in Yenagoa, the state capital, around 2:50 pm on Saturday.

Asinim Butswat, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident, saying she was trailed to her business place.

He revealed that Nancy’s sales girl was also kidnapped.

“On December 19, 2015, at about 1450hrs, four unknown gunmen in an ash Lexus Jeep, trailed one Nancy Keme Dickson, 26, to her shop at Okaka Road, Yenagoa, and abducted her and her sales girl to an unknown destination,” Butswat said in a statement.

“Immediately the command was alerted, it embarked on a stop and search/cordon operations in a bid to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

“Efforts have been intensified to arrest the abductors and investigation is ongoing.”

Family members of influential people have been the target of kidnappers in Bayelsa.

The last known case of kidnapping before this incident, involved the mother of Samson Siasia, ex Super Eagles player and coach of the U23 national team.

She was freed after spending almost two weeks in captivity.

Incidents of the past have shown that vulnerable persons are being abducted for monetary or political reasons.

As at the time of filing this report, the motive of the kidnappers have not been made known, as there is no report of them contacting families of the victims.
