The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos says it did not mandate anyone to praise the Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of the state.

A faction of the party in the recently commended the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its “giant strides”.

But responding in a statement, Segun Adewale, chairman of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the PDP in Lagos, said financial inducement might have prompted the Ahmed Makarfi faction to hail Ambode.

He accused Taofik Gani, spokesman of the Makarfi faction in Lagos, of disloyalty.

“It is not our business to speak for the ruling party in the state,” Adewale said in a statement.

“Gani’s anti-party activities have remained questionable before, during and after the last general elections. Investigations are in top gear to unmask his plans to discredit the party.

“Our disciplinary committee has being monitoring his anti-party activities and will soon recommend appropriate actions to be taken against him. Disloyalty to the PDP in any form and under any guise will no longer be tolerated.

“This fellow has always been known to be disloyal and mischievous hence these views do not represent those of our party and our teeming members across the state.

“Lagos PDP has a competent publicity unit that is saddled with the responsibility of speaking on its behalf. Our publicity organ has not mandated anyone to make such statement.

Adewale appealed to the people of the state to disregard Gani’s statement.

“I therefore appeal to Lagosians and the public at large not to identify with or take him serious as it will be at the peril of whoever does so,” he said.

“The PDP is aware of Taofik Gani’s unholy alliance with the opposition. Rumours have it that Moshood Salvador’s illegal faction collected huge sums of money running into millions of naira, plus several other gifts from the APC-led government of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode during the last Sallah celebration, which we suspect may have led to Taofik’s unguarded and unexplainable praises of his government.”

Adewale said Gani was an APC member in disguise, “because a loyal party member would not praise an administration that prevented the PDP to elect its representatives into the local government”.
