Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, says his administration has utilised public funds prudently.
Diri spoke on Wednesday in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa, after he and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, his deputy, were sworn in for a second term in office.
The governor said he has completed all the projects inherited from his predecessors and initiated new ones.
“We did not just count the four years that passed, but we made the years truly count by prudent use of public funds,” he said.

“We did not abandon any project, we completed inherited projects and initiated new ones, and created opportunities for the people of Bayelsa.”
He assured of regular power supply and portable water, pledging to accord agriculture great priority in his second term.
The governor sought the continued support of the people, especially the legislature and judiciary to create a more conducive atmosphere for more developmental projects in the state.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has congratulated Diri for taking the oath of office for a second term.
In a statement issued by CID Maduabum, director-general of the forum, the governors said Diri’s reelection is a “testimonial” of his administration’s good governance in the past four years.
“The victory is also a request for continuity of more impactful developments in the state to further improve their lives,” the statement reads.
“The forum attests to his administration’s performances in the areas of expansive road infrastructure and urban renewal, civil service upgrade and improved workers’ welfare, intensive sports development and Youth empowerment.

“Transportation service upgrade, renewed security infrastructure/provision, SME funding and women upliftment, health infrastructure and service delivery upgrade, aviation sector consolidation, agriculture and agro-based initiatives, housing, job employment, and others.”
The governors said Diri has the “capacity to deliver” good governance in the next four years.
