Femi Olaniyi, the south-west zonal secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has urged the police to display professionalism in unravelling the circumstances behind the death of singer Mohbad.

Mohbad, whose real name is Promise Oladimeji Aloba, passed away on September 12 and was buried the next day.

His death has provoked public outrage, with the circumstances surrounding his passing still unclear.

Reacting to the situation on Monday, Olaniyi, who doubles as chairman of the party in Lagos, said justice must be done.

He also charged the police to display professionalism in their dealings and investigation.

“Nobody should take law into his or her hand under any guise, no matter how hurtful it is,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“We want the police to display professionalism in their dealings and investigation, and do us proud in all the operations to unravel issues around the death of Mohbad.

“We want the police to do a good job that will make Nigerians, especially aggrieved associates of the singer, to have confidence in the police again.

“Justice must be done diligently without any form of interest from the rebellion.”

On September 16, the commissioner of police in Lagos constituted a team of homicide detectives to investigate the death of the singer.

The police earlier said it would probe the matter and mentioned the possibility of exhuming his corpse.

Over 250,000 people have since called for the ban of Marlian Records, the late singer’s former label.

This came amid allegations of complicity, based on the deceased’s widely reported faceoff with the music company.
