The now dissolved state working committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue has asked a court in the state to enforce an order restraining the national leadership of the party from disbanding it.

On Wednesday, the high court delivered an interim ruling restraining the national leadership of the APC from dissolving the Benue state working committee.

However, the party’s national working committee (NWC) led by Abdullahi Ganduje, national chair of APC, dissolved the faction led by Augustine Agada, and set up a caretaker panel in its place.

The APC in Benue has had two warring factions.

There is the Benjamin Omakolo-led faction loyal to Hyacinth Alia, the governor, and another led by Agada who is loyal to George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

In March, Alia inaugurated the Omakolo-led faction after Agada was suspended from his ward at Ehaje and a court restrained him from parading himself as chair of APC in Benue.

The rift between Akume and Alia has led to a power tussle between both factions of the party in the state.

In a motion with notice number MHC/1585/M/2024 on Thursday, Agada asked the court to compel the national leadership of the APC to obey the order restraining it from dissolving the state working committee.

The ousted chair of the APC in Benue asked the court for “punitive measures” against Ganduje for disobeying the initial order.

“I saw on several television stations that same evening about 8:00 pm and several other news media that the Benue state working committee of the respondent on record has been dissolved by the respondent against whom the leave of this honourable court is being sought,” Agada said in a supporting affidavit.

August 28 has since been fixed by the Benue high court to hear the substantive matter.
