Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, says the country has not been able to achieve unity because state actors have been “busy fighting themselves”.
Speaking on Wednesday when he played host to members of the Buhari Campaign Organisation from his home state of Bauchi, Dogara called for oneness.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand. I pray that we invest in unity and not just talk about it,” Turaki Hassan, his media aide, quoted him as saying during the interactive session.
According to Hassan, the speaker appealed to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to avoid actions that could make the party lose the goodwill that it is enjoying at the moment.

He quoted Dogara as telling his partymen that there is no alternative than to work towards delivering campaign promises.
“We have to utilise these offices to change the living conditions of our people. It is our responsibility to translate that to better the lives of the people and if we can’t do that, we cannot blame President Muhammadu Buhari for that,” he was quoted as saying.
“Our people sincerely believe that change is possible … they will reject us if we fail to deliver, that is why you must work hard to deliver change. If we fail this time around, I don’t think we can ever have change in our life time. Now is the time to truly transform this country.”
