Doctors are our gods, says ex-Ogun commissioner who survived COVID-19

Bukola Olopade, a former commissioner for sports in Ogun state who recovered from COVID-19, has thanked the medical personnel who treated him, describing them as gods.

In a video shared online, Olopade, who was treated in Lagos state, said he is now waiting to be discharged from the hospital.

He had contracted the virus about three weeks ago, but expressed hope at the time that “it’s not a death sentence (and) not the end of the world.”

In the video shared via the federal government’s official Twitter handle for coronavirus updates, Olopade also thanked the Lagos government for an “amazing job”

“To God be the glory, last night, I got a text telling me that I have tested negative (to the virus) twice, therefore I would be discharged this morning,” he said.

“I am in my room waiting for the protocols to be completed so that I will be on my way home to see my family and loved ones.”

He thanked Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, for the “amazing job he has been doing with his team at this war time situation that he has shown leadership beyond every other thing.”

“But my biggest thanks goes to the medical team here; to the doctors, nurses, domestic staff,” he added.

“This is a new awakening for me. I now understand that these people are brought on earth to be our gods.”
