Raymond Dokpesi, chairman-emeritus of Daar Communications Plc, owners of African Independent Television and Raypower FM, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as “a party of self-styled progressives”.

Speaking in Edo state on Thursday, Dokpesi said lack of unity led to the poor outing of the PDP in the 2015 poll.

Dokpesi, who was made chairman of a 17-man reconciliation and mobilisation committee to reunite aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, urged members of the party to shun undemocratic acts and work towards making PDP re-gain prominence.

“Democrats are not socialists nor self-styled progressives, who to give the APC example, are more capitalist than capitalism,” he said.

“This committee shall muster all of the energy, wisdom and sagacity to effect reconciliation amongst our warring and feuding members. We must all have a shared common objective and focus.

“As a family, let us tell ourselves the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The PDP’s setback and current position status in the state is solely caused by PDP members.

“Our penchant for undermining well-known democratic practices, lack of internal democracy, the crave for personal interests to override the general good of the party and the determined posturing of self before others, are, to mention a few, the root causes of our political dilemma in the state.”

Dokpesi stepped down as the chairman of Daar communications ahead of the election, citing the decision to go into partisan politics.

In the build up to the election, the then ruling party used Dokpesi’s stations to not only promote its cause but  to also attack APC and its leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari.
