Steve Okecha, retired professor of chemistry, will present his book titled: ‘The Nigerian Education System: Downswings and Way Forward’, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos, on April 27, 2024.
The book presentation will be chaired by Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River state.
Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta state governor, will be the special guest of honour; Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta north, will serve as the chief presenter; and Jerry Gana, a former minister of information, will deliver the keynote address.
In the book, Okecha takes a critical view of the state of tertiary education in the country and proffers solutions to problems plaguing the sector.

The professor, with almost 50 years experience in the education sector at federal, state and private universities, offers insights for administrators and policymakers in the book.
The book presentation will be attended by Keagborekuzi I, dein of Agbor, who is the royal father of the day; Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, the Otota of Olomu Kingdom and president general worldwide, Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association; and John Ochai, commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
The book reviewer is Nkemchor Onyekpe, a professor in the department of history and strategic studies, University of Lagos.

Okecha previously published ‘Nigerian University: An Ivory Tower With Neither Ivory Nor Tower’, which was reviewed by Dan Agbese, journalist and writer, as “an angry book by an angry man”.
