Double loss… Dasuki loses 2 appeals against trial

The appeal court on Wednesday dismissed two suits of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), challenging his trial at the federal capital territory (FCT) high court, Abuja.

Dasuki had filed appeals against the judgment of two separate Abuja courts, okaying his trial while in detention.

The lower courts had granted the former NSA, who is facing charges of corruption brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), bail, but he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) after he fulfilled the conditions for his release.

He had filed applications at the lower courts challenging his trial on the grounds that the government failed to obey the orders of the courts granting him bail.

But the Abuja courts dismissed his applications on the grounds that it was the DSS, and not the EFCC — which is prosecuting him — that was keeping him in custody.

It was for this reason that Dasuki went to the appeal court, but a five-man panel of the court led by Abdul Aboki dismissed his appeals on the same grounds that the lower courts did.
