Drama as policemen protest in Kaduna

Aggrieved officers in the Kaduna command of the Nigeria police force on Monday protested the non-payment of their August and September salaries.

Some of those who were paid alleged that their salaries were incomplete.

The police officers, in their hundreds, staged the peaceful protest at the salary section of the command.

One of the officers, who spoke with TheCable, said in August and September, he was paid half salary without any explanation.

He said the payment was made through his bank account.

Another officer said while some of his colleagues were paid half salary, he did not receive anything and there was no any explanation.

“In August, some of our colleagues who were paid were shortchanged. Instead of being paid the full amount, they were paid half or less than half of their salaries,” he said.

“Some of us have not been paid for these past two months. When we complained in August, we were told that the problem will be resolved in September and all the outstanding payments would be made.

“But the problem occurred again in September and nobody explained things to us.”

Reacting to the action of his men, Agyole Abeh, Kaduna state police commissioner, said the federal ministry of finance, was in charge of salary, not the police.

While calling for calm, he asked the officers to operate within the law, threatening to deal with anyone who misbehave.

TheCable gathered that the problem started after the implementation of the interpersonal payroll information system (IPPS) introduced by the ministry of finance.
