The coroner inquest set up to probe the death of Isiaka Adeleke, who until his death was the lawmaker representing Osun west senatorial district, has ruled that the deceased died as a result of the drug overdose administered on him by an unqualified nurse.
Olusegun Ayilara, the coroner, said this while giving his verdict on the cause of Adeleke’s death.
He ruled out poison as the cause of death, saying no traces of it were found in the deceased’s system.
Ayilara said for several years, Alfred Aderibigbe, a nurse, had treated the deceased without a doctor’s prescription.

He added that on the day Adeleke died, Aderibigbe had administered some drugs on him intravenously as written in his statement and confirmed by the autopsy and toxicology report.
He said Taiwo Solaja, consultant anatomic pathologist with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) teaching hospital, also confirmed that the deceased died due to drug overdose coupled with abnormally high level of alcohol.
Ayilara, therefore, recommended that the qualification of Aderibigbe be further investigated by the police.

He also advised the directorate of public prosecution (DPP)’s office to look further into the case file of Aderibigbe to know the appropriate charge, if any, to press against him.
Rauf Aregbesola, governor of Osun, set up the panel, but Adeleke’s family vowed not to appear before it.
