The Department of State Services (DSS) raided bureau de change (BDC) operators in Kano on Friday.
Those targeted were the ones selling above N400 per dollar.
The security agency had carried out a similar raid in Lagos and Abuja, in government’s attempt to enforce a relatively fixed price regime.
Abdulhamid Kabir, auditor general of the Al amanat Bureau de Change association, Kano, said the operation took place at exactly 10am.

Kabir said over 20 members of the association at Wapa Bureau De Change market in Fagge were arrested, explaining that the operatives also went to nearby markets.
“I can confirm to you that operatives whisked away some of our members who they suspected were selling above the official price rate,” he said.
Kabi revealed that the activities of DSS in Abuja and Lagos, made the association to hold a meeting last week.

He added that members had promised to comply with the directive of the federal government.
Another dealer, who spoke under anonymity, said agents of the secret police sneaked into the market.
He added the arrest had created fear among exchange operators, and forced traders to suspend operations.
