The Department of State Services (DSS) is currently receiving backlash on social media for saying no one showed up to pick Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now movement, after his bail conditions were met.
The secret police have been under pressure over the continued detention of the activist despite the ruling of the court.
But in a statement on Friday, theye said Sowore is still in custody because no one visited the agency to delivery of him.
Shortly after the DSS statement was issued, Inibehe Effiong, one of Sowore’s lawyers, took to Twitter to deny the statement.

He said he visited the DSS office on Thursday but they simply refused to release Sowore.
“The statement by the DSS is false and contemptuous. The court did not direct the DSS to release Sowore to someone. The Order says he should be released, period! I was at DSS facility in Abuja yesterday where I met with DSS lawyers, Sowore and Bakare. They refused to release them,” he tweeted.
Below are reactions on Twitter and Facebook.

BREAKING: The DSS in a press release just said they have not released Sowore because nobody has come forward to receive him.
I, Comrade Deji Adeyanju, hereby volunteer to take Sowore. I will be at the DSS headquarters in the morning by 10am.

We are ready to release Sowore, but there's nobody to release him to, for the purpose of accountability.
– SSSThis is ridiculous. The mistake of 2015 keeps coming to light, now and then.

😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“The DSS wishes to confirm that it has received the court order for the release of Omoyele Sowore. It is important that the public notes that since the receipt of the Order, no person has turned up at the DSS to take delivery of him."

Lie Lie DSS that takes after its dumb master Buhari!
You don't need anyone to take custody of Sowore before you release him!
When you abducted him, and took him to Abuja, you didn't need anybody to babysit him for that.
You are a disgrace to yourselves for being outright dumb!

Sowore is now a cargo to be received?. It's just so sad that the once revered DSS is now more of a mediocre organisation under this REGIME https://t.co/Suje4lAowD

But DSS are funny. A whole secret police! They are saying no one came to pick up Sowore so he can't be released.
Tomorrow if someone goes to pick him, you will hear they don't work on weekends.

So I read the DSS release about no one having come to “take delivery” of @YeleSowore and I wonder why they can’t just release him into the streets if bail conditions have been met.
Or have they mistakenly broken his legs? 🤷🏾♀️#IloveNigeria #sowore

DSS Said they haven't seen the school bus that will take Sowore home.
Was it not your vehicle you used to carry him by yourself into detention? Lie lie DSS! Tueh!

DSS' press release on Sowore is an absolute joke,
"Nobody has come to take delivery of him",
That's why he's still under detention.
Nigeria has become a big joke.— . (@teewhizzle) November 8, 2019
