D’Tigers, Nigerian men’s basketball team, moved ten spots up from 33 to 23 in the latest FIBA world ranking.
After emerging the best African team at the just concluded FIBA World Cup in China, D’Tigers also maintained their first spot in the continent, according to FIBA’s ranking released on Thursday.
The Nigerian basketball team became the first to secure a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after defeating China 86-73 points in the last classification game of the 2019 FIBA men’s World Cup.
The Alex Nwora tutored side won three games against South Korea, Cote D’Ivoire and host China. They however lost two matches to Russia and Argentina to finish 17th out of the 32 participating teams at the tournament.

D’Tigers have 441.4 points followed by Angola on 332.7 points.

Tunisia, Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire took 3rd, 4th and 5th in Africa on 329.7, 317.7 and 211.6 points respectively.
Other countries in the African top ten are Egypt who dropped six spots down (58th in the world), Cameroon (65th in the world), Morocco (67th in the world) Mali (76th in the world) and Central African Republic (82nd in the world).

USA retained its first position in the world.
The ten top teams are USA (1), Spain (2), Australia (3), Argentina (4), France (5), Serbia (6), Greece (7), Lithuania (8), Russia (9), and Czech Republic (10).
