D’Tigress leap highest in FIBA rankings after stellar World Cup

D’Tigress have moved up 15 places in the latest FIBA Women’s ranking after their World Cup heroics.

Nigeria became the first African team to win more than one game in a World Cup tournament and also advanced to the quarter-final of the competition.

Ranked 34th before the World Cup in Spain, D’Tigress are now the second best team in Africa and 19th in the world.

The Otis Hughley-tutored side recorded three wins in a row, defeating Turkey, Argentina and Greece before losing to world number one, US, in the quarter-final.

The American team retained the number one spot while Spain, Australia and France occupy the second, third and fourth place respectively.

Senegal, who lost their quarter-final playoff to Spain, retained their 17th spot on the global ranking while Angola dropped two places to 20.

Mozambique also moved two steps backwards to occupy 27th spot as Mali dropped 16 places to 40th.
