David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi state, on Wednesday said his administration would fight anyone who try to truncate democracy in the state.
Umahi gave the warning while swearing in Mark Onu, the new caretaker chairman of Ohaozara local government area.
He said all democratic tenets will be observed in the state no matter “whose ox is gored”.
“I heard that some people zoned the chairmanship positions of our party, the PDP, to particular individuals in their areas, and this will not happen under this administration,” he said.

“Anybody who does not succeed in this regard and wants to fight us, we are ready to fight back from day one.
“Life is all about war, the person should let us know he is ready to fight and it will not be like the one we fought in the past… and God helped us to win.”
He said chairmanship candidates of the party would be those who would be ready to deviate from the norms of the past.

“Commissioners and local government chairmen complain that if their predecessors can construct mansions, they also should be allowed to construct mansions,” he said.
“Those days are gone, but they can still build the mansions by creating the avenues themselves.”
He threatened to sack any council caretaker committee chairman who did not honour any summon or invitation by the state house of assembly.
“I do not toy with the assembly so the chairmen should not as I will sack anyone who shuns the summons the day the house writes to me on it.

“I will not release this month’s allocation to any LGA chairman who fails to recover the agricultural loans offered to farmers in their areas whom they stood surety for.”
After taking his oath, Onu, the new caretaker chairman, thanked the governor and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.
