The Ebonyi government says it will issue query to some of its officials over the razing of offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
Two INEC offices in Ebonyi were razed on Tuesday night by yet-to-be-identified persons.
While condemning the incident, Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said if such attacks continue, it may disrupt the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to resume in June 2021.
Uchenna Orji, Ebonyi commissioner for information and orientation, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting on Wednesday, disclosed that the affected officials include Nora Aloh and Chinyere Nwogbaga, chairpersons of Ezza north and Ebonyi LGAs, respectively, where the burnt INEC offices are sited.

According to NAN, the commissioner added that other government officials who will answer questions on the incident, are Solomon Okoronkwo, commissioner for LGA and chieftaincy affairs, and Enekwachi Akpa, senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor on state and LGA affairs.
“The affected officials should explain why disciplinary actions should not be taken against them for failing to take proactive actions that could have prevented such occurrence,” Orji said.
“We are waiting for the outcome of the query which will be issued by the secretary to the state government.”

He noted that the executive council also warned all public office holders to rise to the responsibilities of their offices.
“They should be diligent and passionate in their duties as disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone who fails in this regard,” he added.
