Echiejile glad to knock out the Gunners

Monaco left back, Elderson Echiejile, has expressed delight in his team’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Arsenal.

The Gunners saw their Champions League dreams crash as they exited the competition on away goals on Tuesday despite winning the return 2-0 at Louis II Stadium.

Olivier Giroud’s first-half effort and Aaron Ramsey’s goal after 79 minutes set up a barnstorming finale, but the North London side couldn’t score the vital goal that could have seen them through to the next round.

Now Echiejile, who was an 86th-minute substitute, expressed joy in the 3-3 away goal win.

“’For us, it was important to make it through to the next round. It’s now time to get focused on other tasks ahead,” he tweeted.

“Great qualification; looking ahead to the next round.”

Echiejile now has 185 minutes Champions League playing time under his belt.

The 27-year-old was omitted from the Super Eagles 28-man squad for the March 29th friendly game against South Africa in Nelspruit.
